SONG: JUST GOT PAID
Band: ZZ Top
Tablature: C. Bardallis
Tuning: Standard (E-A-D-G-B-E)
Here's a basic tab for Just Got Paid. Most of my other tabs have actual
timing, but these riffs have wierd rhythms and would take some funky
stuff even in standard notation. I consider the main riff one of those
really cool riffs that you can play for over and over without wearing
it out. (By the way, I have a message for Billy, Dusty, and Frank: Why
didn't this song make it on your Greatest Hits album!?!?) A thank you
goes out to "Ha-ha" Hasbrouck for teaching me this riff so I could tab
it out. Have some fun with it.
Symbols: ~ = tremolo
h = hammer on
c = (shown below) Cut off the note immediately after playing
it to give that choppy, stylish Z Z Top sound.

I love this song so listen up. It might actually be over an open tuneing but im not sure. Thats why i came here to look it up. And by the way Austin, you may want to check yourself before correcting someone else. Your sort of close but if you listen to Billy, he uses the open E string for a pedal tone between the notes you tabbed out.
Here it is over an open tuning. I'm not sure if it's right but it sounds the best to me.

Hey guys what about the open palm mute in between notes?...I don't have a slowing down machine, but I'm positive they're playing open low e in between those notes.

Derek, he's driving a muted open A. I'm not much of a tabber, but this is how it goes.
E-----------------------------

G-----------------------------
D-v0h2--^5--^2--^0---------v2-
A-----v0--v0--v0--v0--^2------
E-----------------------^3p0--
The v and ^ indicate pick stroke. This is important in order to properly accent. This is one of my favorite Gibbons slide tunes.
I'm wrong, he is using the E instead of the A

Sorry about that!
I'd say the tab is quite close; however, I would argue that the final note before the pull-off from G to A is either D or E. Also, I find it easier to play this riff around the fifth fret, as it allows me to still have my open E to ride, while letting me fret the staccato part of the riff instead of having to chance wacking the A while I'm digging at an open D. Then again, I'm more Pete Townsend than Jeff Beck when it comes to my right hand:).
Sorry, I meant the pull off from G to E, not from G to A.
