Luke, the white stripes dont have a bassist...so theres no bass...and this tab is wrong. in the video he plays "6-6-9-6-4-2-1" 3 times and on the 4th time he plays "6-6-9-6-4-2-4-2-1" (then repeat). All of this is played on the top string. I dunno about any of the chorus or anything but thats whats played.
the verses are probably played the same as the chorus, i think its just the distortion that makes it sound like he uses chords.
the way i play it is all on the low E its:
5-6-8-6-4-2-1, i cant remember how i play it exactly right now so..

Everyone who thinks the White Stripes don't have a bassist, is.... wrong!! Though they only have 2 band members, the guy just pre recorded the bass line (with drums only), then played guitar over it. At concerts there's a bassist in the back who doesn't get much attention. But he IS there.
This song clearly starts with a bass line.
First off... yeah, he's using some sort of distortion pedal to drop the register to create the illusion of a bass... since for the last time... THERE IS NO BASS PLAYER
If you play along with the song to match up the notes *correctly* you'd notice that his opening note is an E. E, when in standard tuning is obviously 1st string low E and last string high E. The only way to match the song when you don't have any pedal... say an accoustic is to play second string (A string) 7-7-10-7-5-3-2 ... I know someone will say I'm wrong, but if you listen to the note pitch, which I'm guessing several of you morons have, you will over look the fact that the opening note is an "E". If you mess around, you can play this intro run on any note aslong as you keep the same pattern difference in the notes. The only problem is that you're playing a minor key, which for realistic sakes is completely fucking wrong. Nobody I have seen can tab this song correctly, mainly for the reason that 7 out 10 people don't listen to the pitch of his notes... then the simple fact that Jack isn't keeping one finger pattern. He's all over the place playing different octaves. Next time, try and match pitches before you tab.
Eric has a point. I saw Jack playing live and it looked nothing like this. But despite agreeing with him I must say that if he thinks he can do better why doesn't he tab this song? And Jeez Eric! Take it easy on the poor guy!

misterwond, you are so right.
i play this song from time to time, and i sometimes change the tone, play it different ways. but at the end of the day, just play what seems right to you at the time, it doesnt really matter if its not the exact way jack white does it. when i saw him play live it was on an semi-accoustic guitar anyway. so the vid may be wrong, there is no bassist, im sure HE even changes the way he plays deppending on where n when he's playing.

firstly, on the studio recording there is a bass, its layered, one guy could have played the whole thing, secondly when played live it starts on the 7th fret on the a string and he plays an old beat up acoustic thats set up to play slide
