VERSE

A G C D A A/G

dead leaves and the dirty ground when I know you're not around

shiny tops and soda pops when i hear you lips make a sound

F G A

when i hear you lips make a sound

thirty notes in the mailbox will tell you that i'm coming home

and i think i'm gonna stick around for a while so you're not alone

if you can hear a piano fall you can hear me coming down the hall

if i could just hear your pretty voice i don't think i'd neeed to see at all

soft hair and a velvet tongue i want to give you what yo give to me

and every breath that is in your lungs is a tiny little gift to me

D A

i didn't feel so bad til the sun went down

D

then i come home

F

no one to wrap my arms around

G

wrap my arms around

well any man with a microphone can tell you what loves the most

and you know why you love at all if you've thinking of the holy ghost

Spunge boy May 17, 2003, 18:18

Hey the letters are chords. Get a good chord book, it really helps if your teachin yourself.

Kyle May 29, 2003, 18:33

wilffo June 8, 2003, 19:13

Hi
I'm a begginer and I'm teaching myself to play - I've got all the research etc...
But how can you get the timing for the chords from this tab? Or do you listen to the song and work out where they come in?

Nick June 28, 2003, 1:01

In this case, the timing is pretty much up to you. The chords on this tab are not timed. It is very easy, however to work them out in accordance to the song.

martin_knows_all August 20, 2003, 6:32

this is how the intro is played

e|----------------------|
b|----------------------|
g|----------------------|
d|----------------------|
a|----------------------|
e|--5--5-7-5--3-3--2--1-|

mike September 8, 2003, 0:04

ok ok for shure its not power chords i saw them play the song on snl last night he useis no power chords.

joe November 16, 2003, 4:11

you guys dont sing anything like it this is it for sure

7---6--6-5-5-5-5-4-4-4-4-5--4

Gre November 26, 2003, 21:52

joe dont even try to say anything that is the stupidest tab i have ever seen.. ultimatly this one came out to be the closest.. brain almost had it..
(2 spaces in between means half note)
5--5-0-3--3-0-22-0-11-0-5-3 try it u see its rite

charles January 2, 2004, 3:50

the hell it's 55 5044 40 220 10 553

Jeremy January 17, 2004, 4:51

the tab goes 5-55-0-3-33-0-22-0-11-0-5 but dont hit the open ones wen u pull ur finger off the string while ur changing frets it will make the right noise

shawn January 22, 2004, 3:42

you should tell if it's major or minor ect

Ben February 19, 2004, 23:05

ok heres how it is. Now the ^ means bend it down. if u got ne comments just tell me.
5-5^-3-3^-2^-1^-5-5-3

Niels February 26, 2004, 22:01

To close the discussion about the intro, here it is:
5--5--5-0-3--3--3-0-2--2-0-1--1-0-5(let ring)
then repeat, and at the end it's: ...0-5--3--then first verse.
I hope it's clear this way. If it doesn't work just listen to it, this song's so easy that you should be able to find it urself...

PS: Jack White rules!!!

Sam March 4, 2004, 2:15

What about the other kind of solo part, like at the end?

Lithium June 6, 2004, 20:19

This is how i play the intro:

D|------------------------2-0|
A|7-----------------------0-0|
E|5-5-00-3-3-00-2-00-1-00----|

Sometimes he plays the 7th fret a string and sometimes he dosesnt.

the dead guy June 24, 2004, 1:08

close but it's 555 0 333 0 2 0 1 0

Coffy August 22, 2004, 23:18

Standard tuning for this one, uses a fuzzface if u have one, if not some nice distortion will do!

This once:
E----------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------
D----------------------------------------------
G--------------------------------------2---2--0
B--------------------------------------0---0--0
E-5--5-5-0-3---3--3-0--2--2-0-1---1-0----------

Then:
E---------------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------
G--------------------------------------2------
B--------------------------------------0------
E-5--5-5-0-3---3--3-0--2--2-0-1---1-0-----3---
^
Vibrato the first note
Bend the last note 1/2 a step.

Then the riff continues by:

E---------------------------
A-2---2-2-0-----------------
D-2---2-2-0----4---4-4-0----
G-2---2-2-0----5---5-5-0----
B-0---0-0-0----5---5-5-0----
E--------------3---5-5-0----

same pattern with F#, F and back to A. So main riff is

A, G, F#, F, A. Make sure those open chords are strummed to syncopate the riff correctly.

The remainder of the song is a nice simple picked pattern, try and work it out :D Chords u need are G, C, Dadd11 and A.

Nothing to this song! Good luck!

JerryJoplin May 16, 2007, 7:04

Just Play the song with feeling and the rest will fall into place.
