"I won't back down" by Tom Petty

>From the album "Full Moon Fever"

Transcribed by Hamish McCool

This is quite a simple but equally great song made up of only four
different bar chords - E, D, G and C. It's the rhythm and the palm
muting that really make the song so it's easier to tab it out. Use
downstrokes throughout and make sure you keep in time. It's best to use
a clean electric guitar and wear lots of blue denim.

(Moderately fast)

E |----------3-----|----------3-----|----------3-----|----------------|

Play the above 8 bars through twice.

Outro

Play the intro riff then..

E |----------------|
B |----------------|
G |----------------|
D |9-9-9-9-7-7-7-5-|
A |7-7-7-7-5-5-5-5-|
E |--------------3-|

  P.M.----------|^ (let ring)

I've not transcribed the solos as I can't be bothered tuning my guitar
to an E chord (E B E G# B E) and you can make up your own ones in
standard tuning easily enough with the E minor pentatonic scale (E, G,
A, B, D, E) as used in the recording.

The arrangement is:

Intro
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Solo (played over Verse riff)
Chorus 2
Outro

And if you have a spare guitarist in your band this song sounds really
good doubled by an acoustic guitar but playing the open chords in the
chorus from the "Hey baby" bit until it goes back to being muted.
