I used to twiddle with this song and still remember how I played it. It's pretty much based on standard power chords. The only tricky part is the hammer on/pull off combination (you'll know the one I mean when you try it)--better alternatives would be of interest, but I could never come up with anything easier that sounded right. MISS AMERICA - Styx h = hammer on p = pull off Vertical lines indicate natural breaks in the song--not necessarily actual measures ---------------------------|----------------------------| ---------------------------|----------------------------| -9p7-9--------9h12p9--5-7--|--9p7-9--------9h12p9--7-5--| ----------------------5-7--|-----------------------7-5--| -------7-10-7---------3-5--|--------7-10-7---------5-3--| ---------------------------|----------------------------| ---------------------------|--7-7-7-7-7-3-5-5-5--| ---------------------------|--7-7-7-7-7-3-5-5-5--| -9p7-9--------9h12p9--5-7--|--8-8-8-8-8-4-6-6-6--| ----------------------5-7--|--9-9-9-9-9-5-7-7-7--| -------7-10-7---------3-5--|--9-9-9-9-9-5-7-7-7--| ---------------------------|--7-7-7-7-7-3-5-5-5--| The above is repeated over the verse. The chorus then goes something like this (my memory could be a little weak here): -7-7-7-7-7-8--7-5--|--7-7-7-7-7-7-5-3--|--7-7-7-7-7-8--7-5-3-5--| -7-7-7-7-7-8--7-5--|--7-7-7-7-7-7-5-3--|--7-7-7-7-7-8--7-5-3-5--| -8-8-8-8-8-9--8-6--|--8-8-8-8-8-8-6-4--|--8-8-8-8-8-9--8-6-4-6--| -9-9-9-9-9-10-9-7--|--9-9-9-9-9-9-7-5--|--9-9-9-9-9-10-9-7-5-7--| -9-9-9-9-9-10-9-7--|--9-9-9-9-9-9-7-5--|--9-9-9-9-9-10-9-7-5-7--| -7-7-7-7-7-8--7-5--|--7-7-7-7-7-7-5-3--|--7-7-7-7-7-8--7-5-3-5--| You can opt not to use full barre chords, but I prefer them for this song. All I remember of the lyrics is "You are the queen of the United States/ A disease for which there is no cure". My mind is blank after that. Steve Pachuta

You were the apple of the public's eye, as you cut the ribbon at the local mall. A mirage, for both you and us. How can it be real? We loved your body, in that photograph. Your home state sure must be proud. The Queen of the United States. Have you lost your crown? etc.
You were the apple of the public's eye
As you cut the ribbon at the local mall
A mirage for both you and us
How can it be real?
We loved your body in that photograph
Your home state sure must be proud
The Queen of the States
Have you lost your crown?
(Chorus)
Well aren't you Miss America?
Don't you, Miss America?
Won't you, Miss America, our love?
Well are you really who we think you are
Or does your smile seem to wear you down
Is the girl who you once were
Screaming to jump out?
Is the dream that you must live a disease for which there is no cure?
This roller coaster ride you're on
Won't stop to let you off
(Chorus)
(Solo)
(Chorus)
It's true, just take a look
The cover sometimes makes the book
And the judges, did they ever ask to read between your lines?
In your cage at the human zoo, they all stop to look at you
Next year, what will you do when you have been forgotten?
(Chorus)
everything is good except you're playin too high.
