Chip Taylor originally gave this song to a gal by the name of Evie Sands. 
Evie never
got a chance to record it, because the label she was on went defunct. 
Instead, Chip
gave it to Merrilee Rush And The Turnabouts, who took it all the way to the 
Top 10.  Poor Evie: it could've been her!
