I believe I have a correction to the lyrics for this song. In every version I've seen on-line, the final verse in the first stanza reads: "The baffled king composing hallelujah". My contention is that it should read "composed" (read with three syllables) rather than "composing". The line should read as follows:

...the baffled king composed; hallelujah.

Notice the pause -- a hyphen or comma is appropriate after "composed".

Here's why:
#1 - Listen carefully, the word ends with a "d" sound.
#2 - The line makes no sense if read as "composing", but makes complete sense if read as "composed".

Let me Explain - In the story, David is playing before King Saul because David with his playing is the only one who can ease King Saul's troubled mind. You see, the king occasionally goes into fits of Discomposure, and then calls upon David that he might play for him. Upon hearing David play, King Saul regains his Composure -- he becomes composed (and yes, it is appropriate to say this word with three syllables). King Saul is baffled by all of this -- he doesn't understand why he becomes discomposed, and he doesn't understand why David's playing composes him, he is just glad that it works.

Thanks for listening ... if you agree, spread the word! (If the author has published the lyrics and I am wrong, I will try to retain my composure.)
