no this one doesnt suck at all! this one is more correct then yours, yours is one for beginners, and the one above is for the guys who know how to play the guitar, so shut up about what sux!!

Angry Stones Fan January 22, 2003, 1:15

alright, the first tab posted isn't "more correct". The only part you got close to right were the chords (and you don't strum the first chord twice, it's 3 times)Also if you actually listen to Paint It Black, you'll know there is NO open E in between the notes... and as far as the crap about for it being for people "who know how to play the guitar" its really for poseurs that think they are cool playing a fake lick!!! If you wanna post some Stones music, do it the right way

J February 5, 2003, 23:27

But then Mr Angry Stones Fan...

Paint it Black was originally done using a Sitar... played by Jones. So no matter how much we practice, it will never sound completly right... but then Richards played it on the Urban Jungle tour, so it is possible to get close. Screw you talkin like u know more stuff than others. Get over yourself.

Dave Pembrose February 10, 2003, 0:32

I'd have to agree. The sitar was used, so whats all of the arguing for ? If you would like, you could buy a sitar.. Which is what I would secretly do.. or just stick with the first tab. If you want to get that effect from your guitar, that 'sitar' effect, then adding a few extra notes to give it an eastern feel would be worth commending.

Sunshine March 9, 2003, 8:18

free beer for everyone

The G Man March 26, 2003, 8:21

Both tabs ar good. If I were doing it, I would play in e minor. I would use a little lick similar to that used by the January poster but I would also tune the "G" string to an open "E." The sympathetic twanging would give that sitar effect with a little creative hammering and pulling off in strategic places. You don't need a sitar to duplicate the record. There is nothing wrong with playing a "fake" lick. Fake licks are even played by the original artists, because you cannot always duplicate exactly what is on the record. As long as you capture the essence of the sound, you are doing it right.

Frank rizzo June 2, 2003, 3:36

yea well the object is to make it sound good on whatever instrument you're playing -- if they had recorded it on the guitar they would have probably played it differently.

me, i play the tune unaccompanied on the acoustic guitar, so i play the riff on the A string with an open low E droning underneath it when singing the verse (a string frets 7 9 10 12 10 9 7 7 6 7 9 -- then to a b7 chord). i think it sounds like crap up high w/o a bass guitar underneath

newbie June 28, 2003, 0:15

i just started playing guitar and even i know its retarded to use one string for a whole intro. use more than one. by the way, there shouldnt be an open high e between the notes

Furp July 3, 2003, 8:44

If you all know how to play it so well...why don't you just tab the song yourself? Seems to me that would stop the stupid, pointless arguing.

Ryan July 28, 2003, 10:15

that first post who said it sucks, what the hell, you took all the open e string and it rules what you can't play a chord what involves fretting one string, you are messed

whitetrash44444 August 6, 2003, 2:39

Rizzo, your version is by far the coolest Ive tried whether it's technically correct or not

TATA January 10, 2004, 18:28

this tab is good but i found an easier way to play it easier (sounds the same as the one above):
e|0-2-3-5-3-2-0-0---0-2|
B|-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-4-0-|
G|---------------------|
D|---------------------|
A|---------------------|
E|---------------------|

AND THEN IT GOES THE SAME WITH:
e|-------2-------------|
B|-2-4-5---5-4-2-4-----|
G|---------------------|
D|---------------------|
A|---------------------|
E|---------------------|

I agree with 'Legends Die'. The song is correct but i think it goes more like this:

HelloWorld April 27, 2005, 21:36

Kyle July 18, 2006, 5:18

song is easy to play sounds good and is fun to play around with

Olivier August 15, 2006, 21:29

I just started playing this song, the intro from garret sounds good but I still search the tabs for the chorus, and it's confusing, because on almost every tab site it's in a diffirent way :s

Enocifer December 6, 2006, 6:52

Everybody arguing over the "right" way to play this song needs to chill the fuck out. It's goddamned music. You're taking all the enjoyment out of it. Of course there's gonna be different ways to play it, and there's nothing wrong with that. God, I fuckin' hate soulless guitar players with concern for technique but not feeling. It's the attitude & spirit behind the music that counts, not the fuckin' technical accuracy.

Evelyn CG from BG February 19, 2007, 8:18

i agree with Enocifer it is the attitude and spirit behind a song that matters not how many diffrent ways it is to play it :)

mcskittley April 8, 2007, 7:31

if anybody even knows how to play sitar post some ideas for this song because i will ONLY play this on sitar in order to do it justice(my Sa is F if you could help out)
