The Great Lakes Song - Performed by Pat Dailey
Written by Pat Dailey & Shel Silverstein

    G Em
The Great Lakes are a diamond on the hand of North America
C D
Brightly shining jewel on the friendship bordering
G Em
Freshwater highway coming down from Canada
C D G
All along the shoreline, you can hear them sing

chorus:
G Em
Sweet mother Michigan, father Superior
C D
Coming down from Mackinac and Sault St. Marie
G Em
Blue water Huron, Flow down to Lake Erie-O
C D G
Fall to Ontario and run on out to sea

G Em
Hearty are the seamen on the ships that load the iron ore
C D
Sailing out of Thunder Bay and bound for Buffalo
G Em
Hearty are the fishermen just like their fathers were before
C D G
Say they'll bury me at sea come my time to go

(chorus)

G Em
Oh the tales the sailors spin of mermaids singing in the wind
    C D
the sinking of the Bessemer, the drowning of the crew
G Em
Memories of waters crossed of women won and fortunes lost
C D G
Are etched upon their faces and their faded old tatoos

Em C
Down below the quarter decks the old men mend the fishing nets
G D
Up above the windy bridge the young men curse into the wind
Em C
All along the winds of straits(?) the wives and mothers lie awake
G D
Pray on lady of the lake to send them home again

(chorus)
(chorus)

Glad to know that someone knows and cares about the Jimmy Buffett of Lake Erie!! He has some great music. I believe the lyrics of the last verse are supposed to be
"all along the Windsor straits"
