Mine [C] eyes have seen the coming of another football year
And [F] there sits my old man with his [C] cigarettes and beer 
[G7] His eyes are [C] both in focus on the [E7] color TeeVee [Am] set
And the [F] games go [G7] on and [C] on.

Players are runnin' left and right and he hollers, "What a game!"
Even tho' I'm standing here, he can't recall my name
He really is so worked up he won't talk to me at all
And the game goes on and on; 
And it's drivin' me up the wall.

I always feared I'd lose my man to another dame
But I never, ever dreamed it'd be a football game
I hope and pray and wait for the end - all season long
And the games go on and on.

The bills aren't paid, the faucet drips and Sherry cut her knee
I ask him for some help and he says, "Don't bother me."
I grab the kids and pack my bags, he won t even know we're gone
And the game goes on and on.

Now it's three years later and I've married another guy
I know he truly loves me, I'm the apple of his eye 
But I can't believe what I see on that Tee Vee set ...
[SPOKEN] The announcer yells aloud; 
And It's the [F] Chiefs ... [G7] and the [C] Jets.
