Hey, awesome tab, I'd been looking all over for it, and it's cool that you did the verse and stuff, but I think most of it (at least in the intro) is one note too high. so instead of hitting a 3, it sounds more like the song if you hit a 2, and so on. Still, nice work.

Dave January 24, 2004, 17:53

Maybe you're tuned down a half-step.

Sean February 23, 2004, 23:10

Thanks a lot man I have been looking all over the place for this tab sinse I saw Kill Bill, Excelent job bro

Dave N. February 25, 2004, 5:20

Thanks Sean.

I think Bryan might actually be right about me being half a step higher. But if you run into this problem you can always tune down 1/2 step.

CB February 25, 2004, 6:34

pretty close tab, and just if anyone's wondering, they must be using some kind of volume pedal, try twisting your volume knob back and forth quickly for the same effect, not easy while playing, however.

bill February 28, 2004, 20:04

I don't think they do the effect by volume pedal, sounds more like its a stereo amp (Marshall valvestate 60 otr so) in chorus mode.

bayes March 5, 2004, 3:20

I dont think its chorus, it sounds more to me like a heavy flange effect to get the warble-y sound. give it a whirl

HahneHell March 5, 2004, 16:46

Good job man!
i have something to add: the middle part when she sings higher:

E---------------------
B---------------------
G----10--10----8--8---
D----10--10----8--8---
A-----8---8----6--6---
E---------------------

E----------------------
B----------------------
G---6---8--6--8--6-----
D---6---6--6--6--6-----
A---8---8--8--8--8-----
E----------------------

E----------------------
B----------------------
G--5--6--8--6--5-------
D--5--5--5--5--5-------
A--7--7--7--7--7-------
E----------------------

and then go on with:
E---------------
B---------------
G---------------
D---------------
A---------------
E----/8---\1----

Michael April 14, 2004, 19:48

I would say the effect used in this song is a tremolo.

I used the behringer v-amp2 tremolo and got really close to the original sound.

BBoiBebop April 16, 2004, 14:00

hey, whenever I see someone say "I figured this out by ear, so I decided to post a tab" I usually frown upon it... but this tab is really good! nice job man!

I do have one small correction, the 3rd time you slide in the chorus (from 8 to 6), try doin it on the A string.

again, nice job! you've saved many lives w/ this tab =P

Sandra April 17, 2004, 20:23

Thank you so much for this tab. I'm glad. It sounds about perfect to me. Excellent job. You are great. Insert <3 here or something.

brainycheddar April 18, 2004, 2:10

The effect apears to be a rotary or vibrato sound, I got very close with a steep vibrato, but I think a rotary effect would also do it

Mark April 18, 2004, 13:40

In my opinion it sounds like a tremelo effect. I use an Analogman modded Boss TR-2 and can hit it pretty close. Maybe a little chorus to thickin it up a but too and a little compression. Also to get the note to go flat, you need to dive bomb your trem bar. Nice tab .......

Justin April 21, 2004, 1:25

The effect is tremelo with some reverb added.

tim April 22, 2004, 6:23

Ok I dont mean to be an ass but someone has to set this straight. The effect is heavy VIBRATO or TREMOLO. you might be able to get a similar sound with chorus or flange or whatever, but I'm positive thats not what they used on the original tune. And yes, the tab is written a half step up;the song is in E minor. For the extra dramatic wavery strumming of the E chord after authentic cadences just tweak your whammy bar to make it drop. You can also bend the neck while still fretting the chord, but thats not a good thing to do a lot cause it will stress out the neck. Thanks

Eric April 27, 2004, 1:33

I also don't mean to be an ass but I need to set some things straight as well. Tim is correct in saying that the effect is Tremolo. You can verify this by listening to the song at a louder volume through headphones. Doing this will allow you to hear the trademark (and often annoying)ticking noise between notes that so many tube driven tremolo's make. The song is sung by Nancy Sinatra and was released in 1966. So my assumption is the guitar was probably run through an early to mid 60's Fender or Vox type amp with built in Tremolo. As for the notation, it is correct. The song is clearly in Fm not Em as some have suggested. Playing along to the original recording will verify this.

Steven Snyder April 28, 2004, 8:02

I can verify that the effect is indeed a tremolo (incorrectly called vibrato by many amp makers, tremolo modulates volume not pitch), and as Eric mentioned is likely, it sounds to me like it is certainly played on a mid 60's Fender amp with built in Tremolo. The neck position single coil on my Stevocaster (custom handmade strat-copy) played through my 1965 Deluxe Reverb Reissue with the built in tremolo turned to maximum intensity with the proper speed and a little bit of reverb is almost indistinguisible from the recording, down to the annoying ticking sound the tremolo adds.
Great tab, by the way!

quang May 1, 2004, 9:51

Great tab!! I play it constantly cause I love the movie Kill Bill. Now please, could someone do the tab for the song by Santa Esmeralda's Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. This is the music that plays when The Bride and Oren is fighting in the snow-filled garden. Awesome song with spanish guitar sound. Can someone please translate this?? Please!! Just the intro, please!!

craig May 12, 2004, 2:34

There are a few mistakes in this tab.

The chord on the "he wore black" part clearly starts with an Eb note on the A string which is not in the tab. That is, instead of:

--------
------8-
----8---
--8-----
--------
--------

it is actually

-----------
--------8--
------8----
----8------
--6--------
-----------

Then, the very next chord is actually a C-minor and not a C-major as you have it in the tab. That is,

--------
------4-
----5---
--5-----
--------
--------

instead of what is in the tab. Of course, this chord is very muffled and hard to pick out.

Then, the chord you have tabbed at the "that awful sound" part in the chorus is clearly wrong. I'm not completely positive what the correct chord is, but this sounds about right:

-------------
----------4--
--------3----
------5------
--8\6--------
-------------

Great tab besides these few mistakes.

pepe May 15, 2004, 22:57

great tab!

nice May 25, 2004, 0:55

nice

Aj Vanbergen May 31, 2004, 18:24

Sweet tab, mate, but I think on the 3rd part of the intro, where you've tabbed a C5, I think it's a Cmajor:

You've tabbed:
-----------
--5--------
-5-5-------
3---3------
-----------

but I think it's actually;
----------1-
1---21----1-
0-----310-1-
2--2------3-
3-3-------3-
----------1-

Great tab tho mate, nice one

PaiMei June 4, 2004, 2:14

This rocks man. Thanks for tabbing this. KILL BILL was such a kickass movie.
I always wanted a tab for this after i saw the movie.

;-) June 22, 2004, 4:45

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!
I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!!
I HAD LIKE AN ORGASM WHEN I FOUND THIS!!!

KillerKustom June 22, 2004, 7:20

All you guys are whacked. It's played through a Kustom that has built in tremolo and vibrato.... just like CCR!!
Rock on!!!

spinchter sam July 13, 2004, 8:19

Oh my god! This tab is so great it makes me want to slam my dong in the door of a battleship!

Dave N. July 18, 2004, 2:07

Thanks for all the good feedback. Who says us 14 year olds can't make good tabs.:D

pizza hut July 18, 2004, 22:27

dude, thanx for the tab.....i've been looking all over for it.....

sweetbro July 25, 2004, 0:23

okay. its tremelo. tremelo is controlled volume swells. and when i play it through my vintage vox practice amp....it sounds almost perfect.

Liam August 5, 2004, 19:04

hey did anyone know that this song is actually a sonny & cher song? the original isn't as good but it's worth listening to, great tab, it's not half a step out like some guys said, i'm gonna try and tab the santa esmeralda song now,

Ali August 9, 2004, 10:10

Hey everyone, the effect is not tremolo or anything. It's Uni-Vibe, which comes from a pedal. It was used in the late 60's and 70's. I found it on my Boss V-Wah pedal, and it sounds completely perfect. I'm 100% positive that, that is the effect. You can all research if you need proof.

Seb August 29, 2004, 19:01

well. ali 's maybe right about the pedal effect.
But I personnally think that the original guitar sound is made by the amplifier that is called "twin reverb" .I already plays on it (60's amplifier)and I'm 100% positive too, about this information.
sorry for my poor english

I Killed Bill October 21, 2004, 3:15

Awesome tabs. After watching the begining of Kill Bill Vol.1 100 times and trying to figure it out, this comes as a releif. Thanks for taking the time!

... December 13, 2004, 3:27

gun violence is an up and coming dangerous problem. PLease help prevent it.

tiff January 4, 2005, 2:28

i love you, tab man. i loved kill bill and ever since i heard this song i've been busting my butt trying to get the sound track. i want to do this song for a concert that's coming up soon in my school. you saved my life :D now all i need is a guitarist!

joe January 17, 2005, 2:59

the effect is obviously a built in trem on a tube amp. but who cares. if it sounds good use it.

good tab.

A DISTRESSED OVERACTIVE POWER-HUNGRY CONTROL-FREAK January 28, 2005, 2:14

VIOLENCE IS WRONG!

lol

CainKellye April 16, 2005, 19:29

``That girl deserves revenge." ;) Nice tab, yeah. And the corrections are nice too. Keep it up private!

James May 7, 2005, 2:01

Ladies and Gentlemen, please permit me to attempt to solve this conundrum. It really doesn't matter whether the effect is uni-vibe, tremolo, chorus or flange (it's defintitely not chorus or flange but that's not the point). If you like how it sounds with tremolo, use tremolo. If you like how it sounds with chorus, use chorus. If you want to try and play whilst turning your volume knob up and down, then go right ahead. Now here comes the cheesy bit.... Music is not a regimented subject. It's an artform that should be about expression and if you get too bogged down in the trivial little details you take the soul out of the music.
Here endeth todays lesson.

p.s. Craig, it's definitely a C major not C minor. I don't care how muffled it is, a C minor sounds too wrong for words.

the Bomb Sugar May 13, 2005, 21:07

Cool Tab. James is right. Music must have soul, and if you cant play it the way you want to play it, then stop playing. Whether tremolo or vas deferins it doesn't matter. GO with the Flow. Also, I Rule

Rob May 27, 2005, 0:34

I got the sound down perfectly wth a Fender Twin Reverb with the tremelo on and a little 'verb with a vintage Casino. Almost exactly the sound on the record.

Yeah, you can play it any way you want... but there's no denying the original sound kicks ass.

choco May 27, 2005, 16:32

great thanks a lot... !

jukedaddy June 4, 2005, 14:46

Let's thank Mr. Tarantino for bringing this way cool guitar song to the masses! I thought I'd heard everything from the sixties, but this one came out of left field and blew me away! Also, does anyone know who the original guitarist was? He may be able to lay some of this controversy to rest..

stormtrooperluke June 8, 2005, 22:18

Amazing Tab Matey, saved me sometime pissing about figuring it out!
cheers!!!

gay October 25, 2005, 16:04

gay=you

tiago April 27, 2006, 2:55

The sound it's for shure from a Fender Twin Reverb with the vibrato on, its not chorus or flange its a Tremolo effect.

One really important thing thats missing, anyone know who played guitar on this track??
It would be great to now that , there so many taste there, i cant find this info anywhere.

Who is this guitar player???

Dave July 29, 2006, 19:02

The guitar player could be Billy Strange. I think he played on a lot of Nancy's songs, and this copuld have been one of them.

BurhanBaik October 3, 2006, 4:29

it is indeed stated in the wikipedia that billy strange worked on the arrangement of this song.
