Subject: The Old Country Church by The Statler Brothers
From: joekarasek@juno.com (Joe p Karasek)

This song was given to me by Richard Pivonka for a church service. I
just decided to type it up and send it in to cowpie in response to the
request. I have never heard the Statler Brother's version, so I don't
know if it is even in the same key, but hey, that's what capos are for!
This is his interpretation of the song so he deserves the credit. He
does a lot of fingerpicking, but this is the basic chord structure he
uses.

"The Old Country Church"
The Statler Brothers

(G) There's a place near to me, where I'm (C) longing to (G) be
With my (Em) friends at the old country (D) church.
There with (G) mother we went, and our (C) Sundays were (G) spent
With my (Em) friends at the old country (G) church.

**Chorus
(G) Precious years of memories, oh what (D) joy the bring to (G) me
How I long that place to (C) be,
With my (G) friends at the (D) old country (G) church

As a small country boy, how my heart beat with joy
When I knelt in the old country church
And the Savior above, by His wonderful love
Saved my soul in the old country church

Chorus

Of't (often?) my thoughts make me weep, for so many now sleep
In their graves near the old country church
And sometime I may rest, with the friends I love best
In a grave near the old country church.
