From: higgins@seas.smu.edu (Gregory Higgins)
Subject: Re: EASY crd/tab: SWEET HOME

Here is a very easy way to play Sweet Home Alabama. It is NOT EXACTLY
the way they do it, but it is very close and sounds good to me.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: h - denotes hammer on
                p - denotes pull off

1. INTRO

The following riff is the INTRO (I think they play it twice)

     D C G
|-------------------------------|-------------------------------|
|--------3---------------3------|-------------------------------|
|----------2---------------0----|--------0-----------------0----|
|--0--0------0---------------0--|-------------------0-0h2----0--|
|--------------3p0-3------------|------------0-0h2--------------|
|-------------------------------|-3p0-3-------------------------|
^from here to the end of the
					      measure play quickly

2. VERSES

During the VERSES you can just repeat the following two measures,
or play the INTRO measures if you like the picking.

         D C G
|--------2-------------0--------|--------3----------------------|
|--------3-------------1--------|--------0----------------------|
|--------2-------------0--------|--------0----------------0-----|
|--0--0--0-------------2--------|--------0---------0-0h2-----0--|
|----------------3--3--3--------|--------2---0-0h2--------------|
|-------------------------------|--3--3--3----------------------|

3. CHORUS

During the CHORUS I repeat the following four measures (again, you could
substitute the picking of the intro instead of strumming the chords).

         D C G
|--------2-------------0--------|--------3----------------------|
|--------3-------------1--------|--------0----------------------|
|--------2-------------0--------|--------0----------------0-----|
|--0--0--0-------------2--------|--------0---------0-0h2-----0--|
|----------------3--3--3--------|--------2---0-0h2--------------|
|-------------------------------|--3--3--3----------------------|

         D C
|--------2-------------0--------|-------------------------------|
|--------3-------------1--------|-------------------------------|
|--------2-------------0--------|------0------0------0----------|
|--0--0--0-------------2--------|--0h2----0h2----0h2----2--0----|
|----------------3--3--3--------|-----------------------------2-|
|-------------------------------|-------------------------------|

NOTE: About the neat little riff between the verses and the solo,
well I don't have them figured out yet. Does anyone else?

Here are the lyrics, just in case.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA

Big wheels keep on turning,
carry me home to see my kin
singing songs about the southland.
I miss ole bamy once again and I think it's a sin. Yes.

Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her.
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down.
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
a southern man don't need him around anyhow.

Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you.

In Birmingham they love the Gov'nor. Oooh hoo hoo.
Now we all did what we could do.
Now Watergate does not bother me.
Does your conscience bother you, tell the truth.

Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you.

Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
and they ve been known to pick a song or two.
Lord, they get me off so much,
they pick me up when I'm feeling blue, now how about you.

Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you.

Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you.

Added bonus:
Here are the chords to FREEBIRD:
|G D |Em |F C |D |

and to GIMME THREE STEPS:
verses:
|D |A7 |D |E7 A7|D |G E7 |D |A7 |
and chorus:
|D |A7 |D |A7 |

ENJOY!

Oh yeah, I don’t know the little thing right before the repeat bar on the first time through the riff but ya’ll can figure that out, I haven’t heard the song for a while so there might be some discrepancies between this and the real thing so. Also the original tab on this was very good but lacked a bit. Good job.

jojo August 10, 2003, 18:45

To all of you who are complaining how the song is not good or say...ooo, you could make it better...you aren't very good...why don't u make a better one and quit criticizing other people's work!

I have been mastering this song for about twentyfive years and I think the way I,v been playing it is pretty close to perfect,I played both studio and One More From The Road with a couple of bands and one band I was the only guitarist. please reply if you have any comments.

nice tab. every other tab for this song i found was crap. with yours i can now play the song. once again nice work and keep it up.

danny February 14, 2004, 5:21

hey im a beginner what do i do for 3(o)3 on the 5th string??? and also what is
----0-2/0---- what do i do for that and for 9\7/9?? /help please!!!!!!!

Strat-man February 15, 2004, 2:51

danny, if you see (/),it means to slide up to the note that follows the slash, when you see (\) it means to slide down to the following number.
When you see (9\7/9) it means to slide down and back up to the original note.
If you need more info on instructions feel free to e-mail me.

Itallian Stallion February 15, 2004, 5:02

Strst-man you have it exactly right. YOU KICK ASS. Ive been looking for that part for almost an hour and i finally learned it. O yeah the rest of the tab Kicks Ass too.

some guy February 24, 2004, 22:01

I HAVE A QUESTION. HOW DO YOU SLIDE FROM A 2 TO A 0?

--2/0--????

Strat-man February 25, 2004, 4:18

You have to slide from the A-2 to A-1 and pulloff to A-0. But don't pulloff hard.Or you can slide from E-7 to E-5, that should work just as good if it is convient.

god of the gibson February 26, 2004, 3:18

i was reviewing the comments and tabs posted. two things first everyone who posted something worth while way to go. the last thing much adieu to the Strat-man, dude you rock!

a dude January 16, 2005, 19:43

dude...yall confuse me see im a beginner & i am trying to figure this stuff out..chords are way easier but yea if someone could explain this to me i would understand it....well have a good day cause im out bye

An experienced guitarist January 28, 2005, 2:08

Never give up dude. Keep trying to understand these tabs, and who knows, maybve you'll even learn to play Hendrix style*
And remember, when some1 calls u a noob guitarist, think of what Winston Churchill once said, "Ha, I'm prime minister and you're not- so there."

Strat-man January 29, 2005, 6:55

If you wanna-be guitarist would just sit down and listen to the music and leave Angry Girl alone, you might get the song right instead making fools of yourselves. Otherwise put your equipment on Ebay I'm always looking for a deal!!! :)

Strat-Man January 30, 2005, 17:49

Note to a dude,
Don't stop practicing or get discouraged. Getting started with a song like this may seem hard but as a beginner if you understand that the band has three guitarist you have to listen to the song and understand the tablature then define the part you want to play. If you need more info on guitar tabs E-mail me and I,ll gladly walk you through it.

An experienced guitarist January 31, 2005, 0:52

Well, i'd like to compliment strat-man on his inspiring words. i'll fit em into a song somehow.
i return as i feel i need to encourage
1) a dude to never ever give up
and
2) angry girl to be happy.
if she wants to be my groupie, that'd be fine...

:)

doc February 11, 2005, 0:08

Thank you Stratman, most helpful info - from old bloke down under

Strat-Man February 18, 2005, 6:41

No problem doc, if you need anymore help feel free to e-mail me.

Sean March 24, 2005, 13:32

Someone tell me how to make a tab so I can correct this garbage. And all the garbage i read afterward was pretty much b.s . also. I however know how it treally goes like that part on the Bridge. It is really

-----77------55--------0--
7h8h9--9\5/7-------1/2----

Strat-Man March 28, 2005, 0:26

Hey Sean, I think you might need a little more practice.

Insanepuppy March 20, 2006, 3:44

put ur hands in these chords to play the individual notes for the starting

E-3-3-3-end-------3--------
B-3-3-3-hammering-3--------
G-2-0-0-----------0--------
D-0-2-0-----------2--------
A-x-3-2-----------2--------
E-x-x-3-----------0--------
do this over and over again and u get the chords then if u look at the tab u can c that ur just playing single notes in the chords

Big beginner March 31, 2006, 4:20
