I have now made sure that column number is <80 and
taken out most of the lyrics except the beginning of
one line which helps people out a bit in figuring out
the tab, but I hope doesn't break any rules.

Flake - Jack Johnson
off the 'Brushfire Fairytales' Album

as this was a live version, there is no Ben Harper
and therefore no slide guitar at the end of the song.

And go buy his album! It's a good listen!

FYI:
The M's over the chords signify a muted strum.

Intro/Verse:

Play once for Intro and then start into verse

Repeat 1st line 3x then play 2nd line:

     M M M

Chorus:
Play one line after the other and repeat 2x

E:-6-6-6-6------8---8---8---8--------1-1-1-1--------8---8---8---8------|

Begin at top and play through once more for entire
song.

And if you want to play the album version and you know
Ben Harper then you
can ask him to play the slide guitar part after the
second chorus is sung.

is there a chord version to this?

bryan December 23, 2002, 3:19

everything is correct, except for one thing. The 2nd chord of the chorus, which you have is a C Barre Chord, he actually plays as a C Power chord (X355XX). He only substitutes in the C power chord on the 2nd chord of the chorus, and for every other C in the song, he does the barre chord. I saw him do this in concert... so its right.

Poop December 29, 2002, 1:25

dis is a kik ass tab.... but i would like to no the slidish soloish thingy at the end of the song.

Jakey January 14, 2003, 3:15

JOSH April 2, 2003, 5:22

Mick April 9, 2003, 14:27

i reckon these tabs are 100% correct

with the exception of the C power chord

I am better than you May 16, 2003, 22:26

1st off i'd like to say that i am better than all of you. and 2nd, if instead of playing a muted chord if you play the chord regularly then hit ur palm on the guitar strings it sounds just as good, and makes ya look better when ur playin infront of people

jack May 19, 2003, 8:47

anyone know the solo played by ben harper in the flake song???

Max July 1, 2003, 14:10

im not a guitar ged like some of you and have only been playin for a short time and i was wondering if their was an easier way to play this song. if so please email it to me or post it on your web page

tom July 8, 2003, 0:40

The solo of this song is played on a steel guitar tuned to open E (EBEG#BE). I play steel guitar and have figured out all the riffs ben plays during the song but the solo is alot harder.

nick July 14, 2003, 14:06

if you play the solo in open E tuning it's best to capo the 3rd fret. also sounds good in open d tuning with the 5th fret capoed.

hayley December 6, 2003, 8:41

well it seems to me that im the only girl who goes into these but guyz u hav done quite well and there waz a few mistakes but u hav basically found them all out well done.
