im wit LU, i dont know how to read tabs, i know my chords though, on accoustic guitar!
EADGBE...These are the strings on the guitar and their tuning, in this case EADGBE is standard tuning, E is the top string(Thickest) A is the 2nd string, etc, the other E is the 6th(thinnest) on an accoustic the thinnest is nylon, the top thicker 3 are copper wound nylon..which is why they go all green and crappy if u dont clean them!!! when you see:

D-----------------
G-----------------
B-----------------
E-----------------
The numbers represent the fret on that particular string, so just pop ur thumb or a finger on the 2nd fret and pluck the string, then move to the 3rd, then the 5th fret, then the ninth, when you see RIFF 1(x2) that just means play the riff twice, so all you do is repeat yourself, its pretty simple to learn, because its like a primitive diagram of a fretboard(neck).

Would mean, that at the beginning its quite quick in changing, then between 2 and 5, theres a pause, and 56 would probably mean a slide or hammer on, pull off(read about guitar techniques).
Obviosuly to get proper timing, listen to the tune, but thats what its used for.
