Subject: Hotel California - The Easier Version

I just thought I'd post a somewhat easier for playing version of the
Eagles' "Hotel California": this might be the perfect choice for the
beginners who happen to be crazy about the song. So here it is.

  - HOTEL "CALIFORNIA" -

Am
 On a dark desert highway
Em
Cool wind in my hair -
G
 Warm smell of coletus
D
 Rising up thru the air
F
 Up ahead in the distance
C
 I saw a shimmer of light;
Dm
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim,
Em - E
I had to stop for the night -

And there she stood in the doorway,
I heard the mission bell;
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be heaven
                      and this could be hell..."
Then she lit up a candle
And she showed me the way,
There were voices down the corridor,
And I heard'em say -

F C
 "Welcome to the Hotel "California",
Dm
 Such a lovely place,
                           Am
                    Such a lovely face,
Em- E -F C
Plenty of room in the Hotel "California",
      Dm
 Any time of year

                 (Any time of year)
          E
 You can find it here..."

(all the other verses and the chorus part are no different; just follow the
model above.)

Her mind is tiffany-twisted,
She got a Mersedes-Benz;
She got a lot, a lot of pretty boys
That she calls friends
How they dance in the cortyard -
Sweet summer sweat;
Some dance to remember,
Some dance to forget...

So I called up the Captain,
"Please, bring me my wine!"
(He said) -
"We haven't had that spirit here since
Nineteen sixty-nine...
But still those voices are comin' from fa-ar away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night,
Just to hear'em say,

"Welcome to the Hotel "California',
Such a lovely place,
                   Such a lovely face,
Living it up in the Hotel "California".
What a nice surprise,
                   When you're out of lies..."

Mirrors on the ceiling,
They drink champaign on ice,
(And she said,)
"We are all just prisoners here
Of our own device;
In the Master's chambers
They gathered for the fiest -
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they
         just
              can't
                     kill the beast!"

Last thing I remember -
I was
       running for the door,
I tried to get my passage back
To the place I was before,
"Relax," - said the nightman,-
"We are all
           programmed to receive,
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!..."

The solo part, which as you know takes three thirds of a song, I don't
know about: I have figured if you're a beginner, forget 'bout the solo part.
Eitherway I did at the time.

Great tab. I'm only 13 and just started playing and this tab made it easy

Daniel January 29, 2003, 2:27

This doesn't really work folks, use a B# to start the song than go to a F# than an A than E than G to D and E minor for the chorus go....... G to D to Eminor than F# it sounds a lot better this way

Brad February 10, 2003, 7:03

GOD March 26, 2003, 2:17

what can i say? it's simple but realistic, not hard to play and absolutlly the ''one'' everybody wishes for. simple and mature tab text.with this song i have learnt playing 432 songs with my eyes shut.thank you

PureScouse March 27, 2003, 3:58

brilliant simple but effective i think Brad and Al Dimeola need to tune their guitars, neway great job i hadn't played the guitar in years and love this song so it's made my day.

Dagger April 4, 2003, 23:44

Hi there!
Just to sort a few things out. Yes you can play the song in Am or Bm, according to taste, preference or just the key that suits your voice best. But if you want the Frey 12-string guitar playing to sound real, play it in Em with a capo on at least the 4th fret. Try this for the musical intro of the song:
Em-B7-D(with open E-string)-A(with open G & B-strings)-C-G-Am-B7. Pluck at the strings like Frey does to get those crystal-like sounds.
My theory is that on the "When Hell Freezes Over" version, Walsh and Felder play in Bm AND Am (though with capo on 2nd fret), while Freys 12-stringer is played in Em with the capo on the 7th fret.
Just a theory. I would like your comments, and if you have problems with my "version" I´ll be glad to help you out.

Frank Alexis venezuela April 9, 2003, 1:34

it's a very very good tabs, i thinks that its the best song of the eagles ever, from venezuela kisses and congratulations for e-tabs. Bye.

Manu April 24, 2003, 10:52

This is great! Thanks a lot,
really! I`m a beginner and
wanted to play that Hotel
California for some times,
and with your tabs it made it
easy for me. Great job!
Anyone who can`t still get it
right ; do it on your own, not
with the original music, it`s
easier.

pedro April 29, 2003, 21:40

chido May 23, 2003, 14:58

Muy buena rola!!!

ben June 3, 2003, 19:23

This is a good tab and I like the simplicity, however the recorded version plays this song in Bmin, but if your a dude and you can't sing as high as Don Henly then play it two steps lower in A min as it is written here. I usually don't look for tab but I was hoping to find the solo, put it on if you dare.

DF June 11, 2003, 2:05

Man, excellent tab!! It's rare that somebody gets a tab perfect!

If it sounds right , it is right.
Personally i prefer the Bm version- but what do i know?

Robin November 1, 2003, 1:06

"She got a lot, a lot of pretty boys"
Is wrong it should be:
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys.

"Plenty of room in the Hotel "California","
Is wrong it should be:
Plenty of room at the Hotel "California

But the tabs are just so good!

Brad W November 18, 2003, 22:47

Great job I really love this song and your tab makes it easy to play. Thanks!!!

toni December 7, 2003, 23:24

Eta cancion es una pasada y la tabulacion superior.
muchas gracias por tan buen tema

Brian December 25, 2003, 5:10

Givin the chords and the beginning part of the song in tab doesn't help me at all...I need the tab...(actual notes in guitar tablature form!)...and the solos...the friggin solos contribute to the greatness of this song!

Calice February 26, 2004, 17:05

cette partition est vraiment géniale, je l'écoute en boucle depuis 2 semaines...
Comme quoi, les vraies belles chansons savent mûrir !!

MotherOfTurds March 2, 2004, 23:07

Okey, everybody either complaints and
says that "it's way of dude, it's in the
key of Bm/.../" but it can be played
both in Am and Bm. Live, they play it
in Am, and on the record it's in Bm.

elijah ronny omblime March 3, 2004, 21:36

wow this was all i need, some dance remember some dsnce to forget, great lyrics and tab, practice makes perfect...
dance to jah music....

Cros March 21, 2004, 1:02

I play along with the recorded version. It is in Bm I think the chord sequence for the chorus is: G D F# Bm - G D Em F#
That's what I think. ??

crumbaphobic!!(fear of crumbs) June 5, 2004, 14:33

this song rocks!!i like the acoustic version though.AHHHHHHHH the crumbs are attacking and there the worst kind of crumb!!! coockie crumbs!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

ultramarine July 18, 2004, 17:55

you November 25, 2004, 1:10

i really have nothing to say about this tab.
i just wanted to see "you" written after "me" cuz im in desperate need of entertainment. plz, the next person who writes in, write in as "irene" or something witty.
thx

ricky November 26, 2004, 9:31

yeah...ur tabs rocks...it make me easy to play the song...good job

jabberjaws February 23, 2005, 1:26

lyrics to a song is just lyrics to a song. You don't need diffrent ways of writting it. It's just stupid. But still, it gives people choices. I love the song, though.

Ossama June 22, 2005, 2:40

I.P. Daily November 11, 2005, 17:56

This is the most commentary I've seen on a song. Am, Bm Dm or Hm, it doesn't make a difference. Spend less time on this mental masturbation and learn to play the song in the key of your choice, the whole song. By the way, most of you need to learn grammar and use a spell check.

scott December 1, 2005, 0:48

thanks for the song i love this song its awsome im beginner but its still kick ass.

RiChO January 18, 2006, 3:57

I just wanted to say about the Solo, that If
you are playing in Am just muck around
on an Am Scale and if you play on the Bm
mess around on the Bm , i dont think its
any fun copy-ing som1 elses
improvisations

john May 28, 2006, 7:19

I am an Indian, want to know more about guithar

juanxxx September 19, 2006, 5:08

those arent the chords pedaso de imbecil the chords are: Bm, F#, Am, E, G, D, Em, F# idiota

Tim October 31, 2006, 9:27

I'm lovin it...thanks for the tabs I'm still pickin away, just amazes me how good this sounds and then one wonders how did they come up with this tune? Seems simple now that I've seen the Tabs and yet it is so complex...

Lodiz February 4, 2007, 17:17

i think its was the best tab i ever play after.
I have play all the Dream Theaters song and this was much better!!

Guitar Guru June 15, 2007, 17:05

The chords are completely wrong & it's in the wrong key. To those who think this isn't important, perhaps you should learn a thing or two about music before commenting. Tab is supposed to help people to play a song - how can they do that if they aren't being taught wrong?? Fair play for attempting, but it's way off
