"Closer to Free" by the Bodeans
tab by Brendan Classen(ccdev@one.net)

Modified by: Craig Ostrom <costrom@stephanbrady.com>

This is a great tune. Thanks to Brendan for getting it started.
I just have a couple additions to fill in the holes.

The intro (from Joe Dirt Car) actually goes like this;
Start with a D cord shape, but also place your pinky finger on the
third fret of the high E string. Now move your index finger to the
second string, first fret. This allows you to play the entire lick
by simply lifting the appropriate fingers.

-----2--3--
--1-----3--
-----------
-----------
-----------
-----------
(Press down all the above as described)

Here's the lick.
-----3--------3--------2-----3--------------------------------------------
--------3--1-----1--------3-----1--3--------------------------------------
--0-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------4-----------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Repeat 4 times, then go right into the G,C,D progression.
(Notice how your Ring and Pinky fingers are already in postion for the G)

The instrumental break goes like this.
(Again, start with a D cord shape, but move it up to the 7th fret)
Use your Pinky for the 1st string 8, and the stretch to 10.

--7--7-7--8--8--7--7--7--7--8--7--------7--7-7--8--8--7--7--7--7--8--7----
--8--8-8--8--8--8--10-10-8--8--8--------8--8-8--8--8--8--10-10-8--8--8----
--7--7-7--7--7--7--7--7--7--7--7--------7--7-7--7--7--7--7--7--7--7--7----
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

--7--7-7--8--8--7--7--7--7--8--7--------7--7-7--8--8--7--10-10-10---------
--8--8-8--8--8--8--10-10-8--8--8--------8--8-8--8--8--8--8--8--8----------
--7--7-7--7--7--7--7--7--7--7--7--------7--7-7--7--7--7--7--7--7----------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The big finish is simply G,C,D Bar cords, medium distortion. Have fun!
